It is known that high-frequency rapidly damped oscillations occur on the front of voltage pulse remaining after the surge arrester (SPD) triggered. The parameters of these oscillations are determined by the parameters of a grounding device (GD) to which an SPD is connected and can significantly exceed the level of an SPD residual voltage. The problem of GD operation under pulsed influences is urgent, since the final methods for choosing GD and laying conditions taking into account the pulsed processes has not yet been formed. The work is devoted to the study of impulse resistances of a GD for lightning protection applications and it is a continuation of other works on computer modeling of typical grounding conductors. In the work, the electromagnetic field physics is studied in detail when current spreads from horizontal ground electrodes, taking into account their reactive impedance. For the obtained dependencies, the compliance with analytical solutions was demonstrated and the theoretical justification was found. For horizontal GD, there have been identified optimal soil parameters (soil time constant), at which the minimum values of high-frequency filling amplitudes on the pulse front are observed. It is also shown how exactly the soil parameters affect the amplitude of the impulse resistance of grounding conductors. These results deepen knowledge about the operation of GD under pulsed influences.
