The paper considers the possibility of micromachining various materials using 50 picosecond laser pulses in the near-IR region. The features of the interaction of ultrashort pulse radiation with various materials have been studied. The quantitative and qualitative characteristics of laser micromachining were stud-ied using the example of studying single-crystal sapphire. According to the re-sults of the work, the most effective mode for fine surface micromachining was the mode with the following parameters: f=0.5 MHz, P=10 W, E=2∙10-5 J, F=1,02 J/сm2. Also, within the framework of this mode, the evolution of the cut was studied, it was found that with an increase in the number of sequential scans, the depth of the cut reaches saturation, corresponding to a depth of about 40 microns.
