The aim of this work is to study the focusing properties of electric fields, defined as homogeneous functions in Euler’s sense, which can be used to design electric spectrographs with record characteristics: energy resolution and luminosity. It is investigated the focusing properties of three fields obtained using the differentiation operation of the three-dimensional field structure proposed by Donkin. The surfaces of equal potentials and trajectories of electrons motion in such fields are presented. It is shown that spectrographic separation of charged particles is realized in the considered fields. Optimal conditions for focusing beams of different energies in two modes are determined: focusing on the field boundary and involving a drift space. The main characteristics of the system, including spot size, number of energy channels, energy resolution and luminosity, are calculated. Schematic designs of electrical spectrographs based on optimal field properties are proposed and calculated. The results of this class of fields have shown development perspective for instrumentation of high-resolution and high-luminosity electrical spectrographs.
