This paper focuses on developing professionally oriented listening skills in economics students, which are essential for future professionals. A system of exercises based on authentic video podcasts was created and tested. The system follows a threestage model: pre-viewing, while-viewing, and post-viewing. It targets four listening sub-skills: listening for gist, listening for detail, inferencing meaning, and critical thinking. The system also accounts for mixed-ability groups by offering differentiated tasks. An experiment was conducted at Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University. The experimental group used the video podcast system, while the control group followed traditional methods. The results showed better progress in the experimental group. Questionnaires indicated a rise in student motivation. Learners reported greater confidence when watching authentic videos. They also became more willing to work independently. The proposed system can be used in other economics universities. It does not require extra classroom hours. The findings may help improve foreign language teaching in higher education.
