This masters thesis investigates the seismic behavior of a 20-story hybrid steel-concrete high-rise building in which all 1,600 conventional welded beam-end plastic hinges are replaced by superelastic Nickel-Titanium (NiTi) Shape Memory Alloy Pivot connection elements and compares it against a conventional steel moment-resisting frame (Model A). Nonlinear direct-integration time-history analysis was performed in ETABS v21 under three ground motion records: El Centro 1940 (PGA = 0.281g), Chi-Chi 1999 (PGA = 0.137g), and Erzincan 1992 (PGA = 0.387g). The analysis confirmed the central research hypothesis. The SMA-jointed Model B achieved an average inter-story drift ratio (IDR) reduction of 55.0%, an average base shear reduction of 81.5%, and an average roof displacement reduction of 69.4% across the three records. Full self-centering recovery was confirmed for all three ground motions, with residual moment M3 = 0 at the last analysis time step. Chapter 3 presents a multi-criteria AHP assessment comprising 25 sub-indicators across five groups: Technical/Mechanical (30%), Technological (15%), Operational (20%), Economic (20%), and Environmental (15%). The composite weighted score for Model B is 3.79/5.00 versus 2.96/5.00 for Model A, representing a +28% advantage. The benefit-cost ratio (BCR) over a 50-year life cycle is 4.0–6.5, and life-cycle carbon emissions are reduced by 38.8% compared to the conventional baseline. The principal scientific novelty consists of the first full-replacement NiTi SMA Pivot hinge study in a 20-story ETABS model and the development of a five-group AHP multi-criteria framework specifically designed for evaluating advanced SMA connection systems in seismic structural engineering. The main findings of the dissertation were presented at the international scientific conference "civil, industrial and urban construction - 2026".
