Обсуждается вклад ученых Санкт-Петербурга в развитие электротехники в столичный период истории города. В. В. Петров, работавший в медико-хирургической академии, создавший свою школу и соорудивший крупнейшую по тому времени гальваническую батарею. Петров своим исследованием положил начало работам по практическому применению электричества. Большой вклад в развитие электротехники внесли отечественные ученые Э.Х. Ленц и Б.С. Якоби.
