Аннотация

This is a comprehensive study of electric generation through municipal solid waste at Providencia island, in Colombia. This study focus on the benefits that waste to energy facilities bring to a small communities and even large ones. During the paper, is explained the importance of the refuse classification and separation to obtain the suitable power from it. Then with this basic information which will be used as a fuel in the steam generation, data as pressure, mass flow rate and temperature outlet, is used to design and set the basic parameters up in the steam turbine, which lead in the election of the best electric generation for this sort of application. Finally, the paper ends with a simplify of the excitation system and the electric substation, which will deliver the product to the hawseholes in the island. With the results, this work will show some brief quantification benefits of this way of electric generation in small and probable large population, based on electric demand covered, CO2 emissions, landfilling and money savings with less uses of diesel for electric generation. This work can conclude that the electric generation through its MSW can cover from 7 up to 15 percent of the electric demand of the mentioned population, which give an important statement on the way that we generate electricity nowadays.
