Annotation
The research is devoted to the presentation of the concept of "freedom" in the literary discourse of the Republic of South Africa. The study used methods of summarizing works on cognitive linguistics and conceptology, the method of semantic-cognitive analysis with the construction of a field model, as well as the method of comparative analysis. Based on several works on philosophy we created a unique classification of types of freedom taking into account the literary features of the selected novels, discovered microconcepts that form the field of the concept "freedom", and determined their configuration on the field model. As a result of the study, it was revealed that freedom is one of the fundamental values of South African society and is widely represented in its literature, while the understanding of freedom by literary characters is largely determined by their personal views, which are formed due to social characteristics: gender, age, race, social status. The presented results can be used in further research on cognitive concepts.
