This study aims to determine the acting factors that affect the work of the connection of the grounding electrode under lightning impact. Bolted and thermite welding connected grounding electrode geometries are simulated at COMSOL Multiphysics software. A current of approximate current value that can occur as a result of lightning strikes, is applied to terminals of both geometries. Simulation results were investigated in terms of electromagnetic field, temperature and mechanical field. Magnetic flux densities and current densities were examined for electromagnetic field studies. For temperature investigations, the temperature distributions at the connection points were examined. Finally, for mechanical field studies, mechanical stresses and elastic deformations were examined. The factors influencing the work of the connection point of the grounding electrodes under lightning impact were identified through analysis of the results. More reliable and sustainable systems can be established by considering these factors when installing grounding electrode systems and by providing the necessary maintenance.
