A kinetic mathematical model of a closed lubricating system containing a polydisperse population of carbon nanotube (CNT) species is proposed, describing their dynamics in a lubricant under abrasive wear conditions. The model accounts for protective tribofilm formation, transport of nanoparticles by abrasive carrier particles, aggregation of the free CNT fraction, and the detrimental effects of aggregates. Mass conservation, positive invariance of the admissible state domain, and global boundedness of solutions are proved. A qualitative dichotomy is established: either an interior optimum with respect to initial concentration, or monotonic improvement to a plateau; a sufficient condition for the existence of a finite optimum is derived.
