The study investigates the wear of detergent additives and the natural aging of M-63/12G1 engine oil at the initial stage of engine operation after end-face friction treatment. Metallography and nuclear magnetic resonance showed that the proton relaxation time decreases while additive molecular complexes grow due to coagulation, envelop wear particles, and retain them in suspension as the amount of ferromagnetic wear particles in the oil colloidal solution increases. It was found that after friction for 0.5 and 3.0 h, followed by 10 days of exposure and shaking, the spin-spin relaxation time decreases further by factors of 1.6 and 2.8 because of oxidative aging, whereas oil free of wear products loses its performance properties 2-3 times more slowly, which makes these results applicable to tribodiagnostics of the initial stage of detergent additive wear.
