Данная работа посвящена изучению сказочных архетипов и символов в малой прозе английской писательницы А. С. Байетт. Объектом исследования являются архетипы и символы в художественной литературе. Предметом - сказочные архетипы и символы в сборнике рассказов А. С. Байетт «Сахар и другие рассказы». Для достижения поставленной задачи были использованы следующие методы: стилистический анализ, контекстуальный и интерпретационный методы, анализ критических работ и интернет-ресурсов. Нашей целью является определить роль и место архетипов и символов в художественном произведении. А. С. Байетт - уникальный и малоизученный автор, чьи работы практически не переведены на русский язык.

The present paper is devoted to the study of fairy archetypes and symbols in the stories of the British author A.S. Byatt. The object of the research is the study of archetypes and symbols in fiction. The subject - fairy archetypes and symbols in the story-book of A.S. Byatt “Sugar and other stories”. To fulfill the purpose of our scientific work we used the following methods: stylistic analysis, contextual and interpretational methods, the analyses of critical works and internet recourses. Our aim is to define the role and place of archetypes and symbols in a piece of writing. A.S. Byatt is a unique and poorly-studied author, her works have almost no translations in Russian. The importance of the theme comes out of insufficiency of modern researches devoted to creative activity of A.S. Byatt.
