This work is devoted to the analysis of methods for automatic processing of images of bacterial microcolonies obtained using an optical microscope. Tasks that were solved during the study: 1. The study of the characteristics of microcolonies of bacteria grown on a solid substrate. 2. Collection and marking of the set of images necessary for training and testing neural networks. 3. Research and search for suitable machine learning techniques for convolutional neural networks. 4. Training and analysis of the test results of selected architects of neural networks. The paper analyzes and compares two architectures of convolutional neural networks Faster R-CNN and Mask R-CNN. Training was conducted with the selection of optimal model parameters. The result of the work of two models based on these architectures in the context of a specific task is considered. the accuracy of segmentation and determination of the class of bacteria on the prepared set of images using standard metrics is compared. Conclusions are drawn on the appropriateness of using convolutional neural networks when processing images in the described task.
