A 60 kW 220/380 V squirrel-cage asynchronous motor of IP44 enclosure, IM1001 mounting position and IC0141 cooling method with the H insulation temperature class is designed in two versions. The basic version is obtained using a traditional iterative design approach. A simple MATLAB algorithm for the optimization of the slot geometry of an asynchronous IP44 motor has been created. The conditional optimization problem is solved using the penalty function method, the simplex minimum search algorithm, and the random selection of the ini-tial point. An optimized version of the asynchronous motor with the same winding data and stator core diameter is obtained using the algorithm. For both versions of the motor, electromagnetic and thermal calculations were performed, and the running and starting characteristics were calculated. A comparative analysis of the qualities of the basic and optimized versions and their analogues from the 4A series is given. Possible ways of improving the algorithm are described.
