The given work is devoted to studying of gas discharge in a mixture of gases, in particular Xe-Cs, in a gas discharge lamp at constant current. The research set the following goals: 1. Collection and analysis of the array of experimental data about the current-voltage characteristics of the discharge when the lamp had been heated from room temperature by low-density gas-discharge currents (~ 0.1 A / cm2); 2. Phenomenological description of some features of the formation of a glow discharge in a given two-component mixture. The work was fulfilled at Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, where experimental data were collected. The values of the discharge ignition potential, current – voltage characteristics and patterns of the glow of the gas discharge in a mixture of ionized gases were obtained. The analysis was carried out using the Druvesteyn theory for a mixture of gases, where the impurity component has a lower ionization potential. As a result, the dependence of the height of the potential barrier on the current density was analyzed and obtained. Plasma separation with the formation of a double layer was revealed. A phenomenological description of the processes occurring on the double layer for the direct current mode was formulated.
