The given work is devoted to the study of liquid lithium as a plasma-facing material. Tungsten and beryllium are being supposed to use as plasma-facing materials in the divertor of a tokamak reactor at the most heat-tense areas, where heat and particle loads could become supercritical for a standard solid-state target even during a steady state operating regime. Therefore, the lithium vapor box divertor design has been supposed for DEMO fusion neutron source facility, capable of decreasing parallel heat flux by 4 orders of magnitude from 20 GW/m2 to 2 MW/m2 – values acceptable from engineering point of view – with a relatively insignificant efflux from the divertor to the main plasma volume. A comparative analysis of lithium vapor box divertor designs for DEMO-FNS device has been performed. Three approaches took place in this work: an operating regime with cold walls (Nagayama approach), a regime with hot walls (Goldston approach) and mixed regime. Main parameters of lithium flow from such divertor to the main plasma volume have been estimated in both gas dynamical conditions and free-molecular expansion.
