The subject of the graduate qualification work is “Numerical simulation of various flow regimes of a plain air jet flowing into a rectangular cavity”. The numerical simulation of a plain air jet flowing from a parallel-plate nozzle into a rectangular cavity under conditions of the A. Mataoui (2001) experiment was carried out. Three locations of the nozzle in the cavity corresponding to two jet flow regimes were chosen for the present research: steady and unsteady regimes with periodical oscillations. Calculations were performed in two-dimensional formulation using the CFD code ANSYS Fluent 19.1. Turbulence modelling was carried out using RANS/URANS approach with various turbulence models: Standard k-ε, k-ε RNG, k-ω SST и Spalart-Allmaras. The results of numerical simulations are in a good agreement with the experimental data for both steady and unsteady regimes. For one of the steady regimes numerical simulations predict nonunique solution: specifying identical boundary conditions it is possible to obtain two stable qualitatively different solutions depending on the flow background, one of these solutions corresponds to the flow structure observed experimentally.
