This work is devoted to the study of the radon hazard of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region, as well as to the analysis of measures to ensure radiation safety with an increased content of radon in the air. Tasks that were solved in the course of the study: 1. Analyze the basic information about radon. 2. To investigate the state of the radiation situation on the territory of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region. 3. Analysis of measures to ensure radiation safety. The work was carried out on the basis of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region, where a significant part of the actual material was collected: the volume activity and the equivalent equilibrium volume activity of radon, the density of the alpha radiation current, and the design features of buildings and structures. The density of the alpha radiation flux and the equivalent equal-weight volume activity of the daughter products of radon isotopes were calculated. Conclusions were drawn about the content of radon in the air of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region. As a result: the factors influencing the increase in radon in the air were studied; statistical data on the volume activity of radon in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region were taken and considered; measures to reduce the radon content in the air of residential premises were analyzed.
