The electrodynamic destruction of thin metal layers deposited on film dielectrics and on quartz glass was investigated. The metals studied were aluminum, nickel, and gold. The tests were carried out on a submicrosecond time scale (no more than a few hundred ns). The effect of the sample thickness on the fracture time was established. It turned out that the smaller the thickness of the metal layer, the longer the time for the destruction of the sample. When analyzing the mechanism of sample destruction (the appearance of so-called strata), it was found that the frequency of strata repetition depends on the current density. Also experiments have shown that the influence of the substrate on the EVP process is insignificant.
