In the given bachelor’s thesis, the features of the degree of assimilation of some German loanwords at the current stage of the development of the English language are considered. Definitions of the concepts "borrowing" and "assimilation" are given; the causes of the linguistic phenomenon, the signs of assimilation and stages of adaptation of borrowed vocabulary are identified; the main classifications and ways of borrowing of foreign lexical units are considered; the historical periods of the penetration of borrowings from different languages into English are determined. Selected German loanwords from English-language newspapers are analyzed in detail from the point of view of four aspects: pronunciation, semantics, spelling and morphology, and the degree of their assimilation is determined. A quantitative analysis of the obtained material is provided, fields and frequency of the use of Germanisms in the written and oral speech of native speakers are identified.
