The subject of the graduate qualification work is «Analysis of the effectiveness of the artificial viscosity method for suppressing shock wave instability in computations on arbitrary grids». The work is devoted to testing the method of artificial viscosity and its modifications in suppressing the shock wave («carbuncle») instability. Two modifications of this method were implemented to the finite-volume "unstructured" SINF/Flag-S code, which developed at the Institute of Physics and Mechanics SPbPU. During the work, the following tasks were performed:a literature review was carried out, on the basis of which a formula for calculating artificial viscosity was selected for implementation in the SINF/Flag-S code;module for calculating the characteristic cell size used to calculate the artificial viscosity coefficient through its largest diagonal was added; two modifications of the method have been developed and implemented in code to reduce the value of artificial viscosity, thereby reducing excess numerical dissipation. Using a modified version of the code SINF/Flag-S, test calculations of supersonic inviscid flow around a cylinder were carried out. The effectiveness of the artificial viscosity method was evaluated in calculations using quasi-structured and unstructured grids with different types of grid elements. The effectiveness of the artificial viscosity method and its modifications in suppressing instability was also evaluated, it was shown that the use of modifications can reduce the dissipation of the obtained solution. The effectiveness of the developed modifications of the artificial viscosity method was also evaluated, as a result it was shown that using modifications makes it possible to reduce the dissipation of the obtained solution without reducing the efficiency of suppression of shock wave instability.
