The subject of the graduate qualification work is: "Determination of the hydraulic characteristics of the DN 500 control valve for nuclear power plants". This work is devoted to determining of the hydraulic characteristics of the control valve DN 500 (RC 110.500.00-E) by means of software for engineering analysis and modeling method – the Ansys Fluent software. Modeling and analysis in the field of engineering avoids costly and lengthy development cycles. Therefore, the task of determining the standards of applicability of equipment in operational conditions is increasingly entrusted to software, which uses numerical modeling of physical processes as a tool. In the course of the work, the results of numerical modeling were obtained and compared with the results obtained by analytical calculation. As a result of the work done, a graph of the control elements flow characteristic was obtained, the pressure drop before cavitation was determined, as well as the critical pressure drop. Analysis of the impact of cavitation was conducted and conclusions were drawn regarding possible destructive consequences on the surfaces of the valves resulting from cavitation effects. Additionally, a program was developed to account for cavitation allowance when selecting a valve for a flow capacity of one.
