The structure and the process of structure formation affect the properties of the material. Grain size, particles of the second phase, vacancies, dislocations –all this affects the characteristics of the metal and, accordingly, its application. The initial structure of hot-rolled and heat-treated Cu-Cr-Zr bronze plates manufactured using the rolling technology with small compressions adopted at the «Krasny Vyborzhets» plant has been studied. The structure is characterized by a large and uneven grain size. The opinion is expressed that the reason for the formation of large grains is the migration of grain boundaries during subcritical compression caused by uneven hardening. Hot rolling modes are proposed to ensure the production of a finer uniform grain and the possibility of quenching from rolling heating, which provides high plastic properties during cold rolling and the required hardness after aging.
