The given work is devoted to obtaining information on the achievable field emission currents of composite cathodes made of thermally expanded graphite (TEG) and a mixture of TEG and diamond granules; obtaining about a transverse beam formed by an electron-optical system using emitters. The object of study in this work are graphite and diamond-graphite composite field emitters. The tested composite cathodes make it possible to obtain from an emitting surface area of 0.04 - 0.05 cm2, emission currents up to approximately 70 - 80 mA, sufficient to ensure the operation of some types of sub-terahertz microwave devices, including spectroscopic gyrotrons. The analysis of the transverse structure of the beam was carried out using an analyzer with a delaying field. The application program Wolfram Mathematica was used for visualization. It seems necessary to continue the study of carbon composite cathodes begun in this work, paying special attention to the consideration of the possibilities of increasing the uniformity of the electron flux emitted by cathodes.
