This work is dedicated to the experimental study of the influence of the type of magnetic ordering on the ultrafast laser-induced dynamics in low-dimensional mag-netic materials. In the experiment, we used MPS3 (M = Ni, Fe) flakes obtained by exfoliation. FePS3 and NiPS3 are antiferromagnetic van der Waals materials, 2D-Ising-like and 2D-XY-like respectively. We study how the type of magnetic order affects ultrafast laser-induced dy-namics by comparing laser-induced demagnetization in these two compounds, i.e. la-ser-induced partial quenching of magnetic ordering. The measurement of laser-induced demagnetization was carried out using the pump-probe technique. In experiments laser-induced change in the intensity and rota-tion of the polarization plane of the reflected probing pulse were measured. In par-ticular, changes of the probe polarization rotation were ascribed to the changes of ex-change linear dichroism. To compare this process in two compounds, we obtained the values of the criti-cal exponent characterizing the change in the degree of demagnetization in the vicini-ty of TN and the spin-lattice interaction constant from data on ultrafast demagnetiza-tion. The characteristic demagnetization times in FePS3 increase as the transition tem-perature is approached. We attribute this to the fact that the magnetic heat capacity of the system has a sharp maximum at TN. In contrast to FePS3, the total heat capacity of NiPS3 does not exhibit a sharp maximum near the transition temperature. As a result, the characteristic demagnetization times in NiPS3 vary slightly near TN.
