This paper discusses the main types and schemes of district heating systems in the city of St. Petersburg. The features and main directions of increasing the efficiency of heat supply systems of the Primorsky district are highlighted. An analysis was made of the duration of standing temperatures of the outdoor air during the heating period. Optimization of schedules for regulating the supply of thermal energy has been made. A technique for estimating the excess consumption of thermal energy has been developed. For the subsequent technical and economic assessment of the transition to a closed heat supply system, a quarter of the Primorsky district of the city of St. Petersburg was chosen. The loads of each subscriber input are determined. Optimal schemes for thermal points are considered and selected. The relative value of savings for the quarter of the Primorskaya boiler house from the implementation of energy–saving measures is calculated. The calculation of the investment requirement for the transfer of an open heat supply system to a closed hot water supply system of the Primorsky district quarter of St. Petersburg was performed. As a result of the calculations, it was found that the transfer of open heat supply systems to closed heat supply systems with automation according to no option in the territory of St. Petersburg is not cost–effective. To increase energy efficiency and reduce the populations payment for heating buildings, it is advisable to introduce optimal central control schedules at the source.
