In this work, the simulation of current flow from a vertical electrolytic grounding conductor during a lightning voltage impulse is carried out and the operating factors that affect the operation of an electrolytic grounding conductor are determined. The simulation was carried out in the COMSOL Multiphysics environment. A model of a vertical earth electrode 5 meters long for electrolytic and metal earth electrodes has been built. Stationary resistances for both ground electrodes were calculated. The characteristics showing the ability of grounding conductors to divert the acting current are considered. Graphs of the draining current for a metal ground electrode are obtained depending on the specific resistance of the soil and the dielectric constant of the soil. Graphs of the draining current for an electrolytic ground electrode are plotted depending on the specific electrical resistance of the soil, the electrolyte spreading parameter, the specific conductivity of the electrolyte, and the dielectric constant of the soil. At the end of the work, the obtained data were analyzed. Conclusions were drawn that the current flowing from the electrolytic ground electrode is higher than the current flowing from the metal ground electrode in soils with different electrophysical parameters. It depends on the spreading parameter, electrolyte resistivity, soil resistivity and soil permittivity.
