This thesis explores how integrating 5D BIM technology affects construction projects in Ethiopia. 5D BIM technology, which stands for Building Information Modeling, is widely used in different countries achieving more project efficiency, minimized construction rework, enhanced team collaboration and so on. Although the success of BIM technology is proven in many nations, its application is poorly adopted in Ethiopia. The findings of this thesis demonstrate opportunities in advancing the already booming sector in Ethiopia by enhancing project delivery and cost control. These two points continue to be a challenge for many construction projects across the country, even today. This thesis combines several research methods, including a literature review, a detailed survey, and a case study. The literature review explores the characteristics of Ethiopias construction industry, the overall construction project management methods used, challenges and opportunities too. 5D BIM applications are discussed in extensive manner, how it can be optimized and their outcomes. To deeply understand the construction industry, a survey consisting of 120 participants was conducted. A diverse group of professionals, each bringing their unique experiences and expertise, participated in a survey styled like a questionnaire. This survey delved into numerous aspects of Building Information Modeling (BIM), aiming to thoroughly understand the dynamics of the construction industry within the country. Following the survey, a thesis-based case study is made. I created an Adaptive Resource Allocation Framework (ARAF) to be implemented within the BIM technology for risk identification and mitigation. Risk scenarios are created and examined how they can affect the construction project process, the mitigation action would be ready and minimize impact the project timeline and budget, even avoid it completely if possible. The results of the case study revealed that integrating 5D BIM technologies in the construction projects with the adaptive resource allocation system can be used for risk management, resource monitoring and prediction, decision making and optimization, and adaptation mechanisms.
