The title of the graduate qualification paper: “Forming foreign students’ professionally oriented cultural literacy on the basis of lingua cultural approach”. The aim of the research is to develop and experimentally test the effectiveness of using a language-focused instruction strategy based on the lingua cultural approach including the usage of a complementary online resource as a didactic means of forming foreign students’ professionally oriented cultural literacy. The research set the following goals: - to describe foreign students psychological and cultural characteristics affecting their adaptation to professionally oriented realities; - to determine the concept of "cultural literacy" as a part of intercultural competence and to define its components; - to clarify the potential of lingua cultural approach in foreign students’ professionally oriented competences formation and their adaptation to Russian culture; - to provide the language-focused instruction strategy for developing foreign students professionally oriented cultural literacy; - to approbate the strategy, to analyze the results obtained. The relevance of the problem is due to the need to: prepare competent future specialists in the field of “Regional Studies” (major: “The Russian Federation”) with high level of foreign language proficiency and professionally-oriented knowledge; to enhance the level of foreign students’ cultural literacy in multilingual context; to improve the quality of the students’ independent learning in the process of the adaptation to new culture. The data for the research were collected: the psychological and cultural characteristic of foreign students; the theoretical pedagogical and methodological background connected to cultural literacy and professionally oriented vocabulary formation; the possibilities of using a language focused instruction strategy based on lingua cultural approach (in the form of an online complementary resource) for forming cultural literacy; the results of the experimental learning of foreign students majoring in “Regional Studies”. The study resulted in the development of the language focused instruction strategy based on the lingua cultural approach and the online complementary resource for forming professionally-oriented cultural literacy in foreign students majoring in “Regional Studies”.
