This study examines the global trend of de-dollarization and its impact on the stability of international financial markets amid increasing geopolitical risks and the transformation of the global monetary system. The aim of the research is to analyze the changing role of the U.S. dollar in global reserves, international transactions, and financial markets, as well as to assess the relationships between de-dollarization processes, market uncertainty, and exchange rate volatility. The study is based on data from the IMF, BIS, and SWIFT covering the period 2016–2025 and employs econometric modeling in Stata 18, including the construction of a composite exchange rate volatility indicator and a trivariate VAR model. The results indicate that increases in the VIX index significantly restrain the de-dollarization process (coefficient –0.0788; p = 0.000), confirming the continued role of the U.S. dollar as a safe-haven asset during periods of crisis. At the same time, higher VIX levels contribute to greater global exchange rate volatility (coefficient 0.0081; p = 0.004). The findings also show that the current level of de-dollarization does not yet have a statistically significant impact on the stability of global currency markets (p = 0.330), while its effect on the VIX index remains weak (p = 0.206). Overall, the results suggest that de-dollarization is progressing gradually through the expansion of local currency settlements, the diversification of international reserves, and the strengthening of regional financial cooperation.
