Эмпирической основой исследования стали романы Джулиана Барнса ‘The Sense Of An Ending’, Кэйт Эткинсон ‘Life After Life’, Маргарет Дрэббл ‘The Sea Lady’ и ‘The Seven Sisters’, Филипа Рота ‘Indignation’, Ли Чайлда ‘Die Trying’, Айрис Мердок ‘The Book And The Brotherhood’ и Кингсли Эмиса ‘The Old Dev-ils’.
The subject of the senior thesis is “Means of expressing the hybrid communicative intention in English sentences in terms of speech act theory.” The senior thesis is devoted to the analysis of exclamatory sentences with hybrid communicative intention. The qualitative and quantitative investigation of exclamatory speech acts, their most frequent models and functions is undertaken on the basis of the American and English literature written during two certain time periods (from 1980 to 2000 and from 2001 to 2020). Methodological basis of the senior thesis: scientific writings of A. Wierzbicka, V. Dranko, A. Zotova, J. Austin, J. Searle, etc. Moreover, the graduate qualification work includes information from internet resources devoted to speech act theory. Empirical basis: Julian Barnes ‘The Sense Of An Ending’, Kate Atkinson ‘Life After Life’, Margaret Drabble ‘The Sea Lady’ and ‘The Seven Sisters’, Philip Roth ‘Indignation’, Lee Child ‘Die Trying’, Iris Murdoch ‘The Book And The Brotherhood’ and Kingsley Amis ‘The Old Devils’. According to the analysis, the quantitative figures has not changed within two time periods. This enables to hypothesize that the hybrid communicative intention is a consistent phenomenon for English and American literature in particular and for the English language in general.
